Well, I fear my children might agree! Over the last week and a half we have had one incident after the other. First, Scott was playing with Avery and flipping her around when...well, He DROPS her! Yes, right on her head! At the moment it honestly did not seem to be that big of a deal. Sure she cried and whimpered for about thirty minutes but that's normal....right? Shortly after Scott left for work she started to throw up and starts falling asleep! I, of course, flipped out and called Scott to come home. He calls the doctor who says, "Go to the ER!" So Scott hurries out the door with Avery and I immediately get on the phone. I call my best friend Lauren, my Daddy, another friend Alisa, my brother Tyler, my Mama (who almost flew down!) and my cousin Spring! I probably tried to call a few more people but these were the ones who answered. (I deal best with stress by talking a lot!!) My mother immediately send out a mass text message to everyone in her phone to pray for Avery who might have a concussion! I, of course, get about five calls right on the spot!! Well, 15 conversations, 3 hours, and 1 CAT scan later, we find out Avery is okay! Thankfully the hospital did not call child services. Which I feared they would because she was just in the ER about two months ago for eating half my bottle of thyroid medicine! (Are you starting to understand why I am doubting our abilities in the parenting department?) After that things seemed to settle down abit until we went to a graduation party for a guy at church. It was at a house that had a pool and people were eating and talking outside. Now, we had already told Andrew and Avery about ten times to "Stay away from the pool!" (Like that does any good!) If any of you have ever been around Avery you would know that she likes to push you on everything you tell her! So, naturally Avery kept inching her way closer to the pool. When she leans down to put her hands in the water and FALLS IN THE DEEP END!! I have never moved so fast in my life! I honestly can't remember getting from where I was to Avery. I slid to the side of the pool like a baseball player sliding into home plate! The entire left side of my body went into the pool as I reached in and grabbed her by her arm to pull her out! I had heart palpitations for an hour!! (In the mean time Scott put Elijah on the ground as He was fixing to jump in the pool!) I sure hope that the Guardian Angels the Lord has so graciously placed in my life get a long break after I am gone!! They truly deserve it!! I have no doubts that they stay heavily on guard 24/7....because in my life you never know whats going to happen next. While lately I am questioning my parenting abilities I guess I can look on the bright side. If my children survive their childhood they can handle anything life throws at them as adults!!

A month of Fun!!

Please forgive me for not updating the blog for so long!! I had planned to get these pictures uploaded within two days of Easter. (This is like ten days from Easter!) But Hey, better late than never!! We really did have a great Easter. It started very earlier. Scott preached a sunrise service and by some miracle the whole family made it in time! There is not much to add about the day. However, I don't want that to say that it wasn't a special day. I love Easter! As my children grow up I hope they do have fun memories of hunting for eggs and eating all the Easter candy. I know I love those days from my childhood! But I hope that each year, they as best they can, grow into a deeper understanding of Calvary. I sincerely pray that Easter will not be something that is just a reminder of "going to church" or that it doesn't become something normal or routine. I pray that it is a reminder of the cross and the debt that was paid and it pushes them further in their individual walk with Christ.

Did I mention I made Avery's dress?
It was another Easter miracle that it
didn't fall apart!!

Avery wasn't completely understanding
this egg hunting thing!!

I can NEVER get them to all smile at once!!

Not Again....

Okay...apparently I need to rethink how I am teaching my children lessons on modesty! If you recall several weeks ago I had an incident with Avery pulling her dress up and her diaper off at church. Well, this time it's worse!! We are potty training Andrew and Avery and like most boys Andrew is fascinated by the fact that he can whip down his pants and pee wherever he wants. His most favorite place to sneak a quick "pee" is outside in the grass. I try to pick my battles since I am outnumbered by toddlers in my house. So, occasionally I let him go pee in the back yard. Obviously Andrew did not catch on to my teaching that going potty is not something for the public to see. Wednesday night after church let out, me and another lady were outside talking as people were walking out of the building. When all of a sudden I looked up and saw Andrew standing there pants around the ankles, pelvis thrust forward, and urinating in the church grass!! I screamed out, "NO ANDREW!!" The other lady burst into laughter as I asked Andrew why he did that. Andrew responded with "I tee teed outside.....Like Daddy!!" Humbled again as I realize how completely unaware I am at this parenting thing! "Pride comes before the fall, and lessons in humility come from the very small!!"

"Hairpaste?"

Whenever the house is quiet and the kids are awake you can bet that they have gotten into something. Now, most parents know this to be true but, in our family whenever Avery goes unseen or unheard for even five minutes we know she is doing something is not right. This was one of those times. I thought Avery was playing in her room when I noticed my bedroom door was opened. Oh No! I thought. Any time my room is invaded by my little "explorers" you can bet destruction is under way!! I called out to her "AVERY YOU BETTER GET OUT HERE NOW!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" And of course, she did not answer. When I got into my bathroom there she was covered in my toothpaste! She had squeezed out half the bottle and was rubbing it into her hair!! Did I mention we had to leave for church in ten minutes? (and the pastor rides with me!!) I made a growl of frustration as I yanked the toothpaste and hollered "GO TO YOUR DADDY!!" Scott did his best to wash the globs of toothpaste out that were matted into her hair. Life around the Fortenberry house is never dull, but at least Avery smelled nice and "minty" for church!

Caught ya white handed!
(you know as opposed to red handed....cheesy I know!!)

Avery's thinking "Uh oh! It has been over a week since I have posted on the blog. Life has been crazy....is that hard to imagine? It has been a busy week! There was a shuttle launch this past Sunday so we went up on to Sugarloaf "Mountain" (which is like 200 feet above sea level....huge I know.) It was so great!! I posted some pictures of the launch but it's hard to see the shuttle. I also posted some cute pics of Avery when she wanted to get all dressed up this week to go to church on Wednesday night. I know it's not much of a blog post, but I hope you enjoy the pictures!!

Cute as a button!!

This is Andrew flying his space
shuttle as he watches!

Indecent Exposure

As you probably know Avery is my...hum..how should I say this...My Spirited Child!! She adds a lot of flavor to my life. In fact, if she were a spice she would be cayenne pepper!! So here is the latest "event" in my little fireball's life. We go to prayer meeting at church on Wednesday nights. Now, I have decided to attempt to take the children into the service!! Yes, that's all three children, three years and younger.....You can really feel the Spirit move! Things were actually going well tonight. The kids were cooperating well and focused on their little "quiet" activities. When all of a sudden Avery stood up and shouted, "I tee teed Daddy!" I was humiliated!! My husband is the pastor so she yelled out to him while he was leading prayer meeting!! I was doing everything as fast as I could. I practically tossed Elijah to the girl next to me and grabbed Avery as we hurried out of the sanctuary. The whole time she is yelling " I tee teed Daddy! I tee teed!! Well, I got her changed and we made our second attempt at prayer meeting and my hundredth attempt to save my dignity. After the service was over, several people were standing outside talking while the kids played in the grass. I was carrying on a great conversation with a friend (any conversation with someone over three feet tall is wonderful) when Avery came running up with her diaper in one hand and holding up her dress with the other!! She was naked from the waist down and said "I tee teed Mommy!" If there would have been a hole in the ground I would have crawled into it!! That girl mooned everybody in the parking lot! Oh Avery, you will forever teach me one very important truth in life....It's not about me!!

Oh where is my toothpaste?

It started off as a normal day...meaning the kids had woken up around 5 times in the night and of course, they woke up early...despite the time change! I stumbled around trying to find wipies and diapers to change some very soggy diapers, then fed Andrew and Avery pop-tarts....the breakfast of champions!! Of course, by the time I got to Elijah he had filled his diaper and leaked out the side soaking his sleeper. After I had a half a cup of coffee I sent Andrew and Avery to wake Scott for work....I'm sure he appreciated this!! Bless Scott's heart, after searching in a rather bare closet he finally found some clothes to wear to work in the mountain of unfolded clothes in the laundry room. Then, the toothpaste came up missing, so we searched and searched. Then it hit me......AVERY!! I yelled out "Where is the toothpaste?" We found the little turkey hidden in the living room with white toothpaste smeared all over her!! I threw the tube to Scott and just wiped her down with a wipey....she smelled like mint the rest of the day! The next few hours were filled with my usual "showdowns" with Avery (my 22 month old) over anything and everything, nursing Elijah (I've changed my name to "Elsie" the cow) and Andrew attempted to "cook" something in my kitchen that consisted of Sweet Tea, cucumbers and corn starch!! (He takes full advantage of me when I am stuck on the couch nursing Elijah!!) Scott came home at lunch and saved the day by helping me clean up Andrew's little concoction and get the kids fed. Thank you Lord for naptime!!

"She Majored in Home-Ec.....Oh No!!"

As anyone in my family knows I am a terrible procrastinator...I mean the world's worst! It has gotten me into more trouble in my life than I can remember. You would think that I would have taken note of that and learned my lesson!! (I guess I put that off for later to..ha ha!!) So for about two months now I have known that Scott's family is coming into town. I had in my head all of the things on my "to do list" and had my plan of when I would get it done. But just like so many other times in my life, it has come down to the wire. They will be here in less than 24 hrs. and my house is a wreck, the children have put more marks on the walls than I can count, and I practically need to repaint!! (which of course I had planned to do!!) So much like those Saturdays growing up I have waited all this time to do my chores and didn't get to it. Unfortunately, getting "grounded" by Marilyn is no longer my biggest fear. Not only do I tremendously respect the people that are coming to stay with us and so badly want to be wonderful hostess but it just so happens that Scott's Aunt actually majored in Home-EC!! You've got to be kidding me! I am seriously about to go under. However, I think I have a way out, they don't actually know that "procrastinating side" of me so I can blame it on the children. Okay, okay that's a little wrong. Well, wish me luck as do my best to make my house somewhat presentable while taking care of three children and changing what feels like thousands of diapers! I think the last time I worked this hard was when I was growing up and was busting it to get my "list" done before Mama got home!!

"AIR BABY"

At Christmas my brother Jackson got Elijah an Air Jordan baby outfit!! I thought it was so cute and the fact that my brother thought of it made it so meaningful. Andrew already thinks that his uncles are great. He lights up at just the mention of their name. I know that Elijah will be the same. Since my brothers were so young when I started having children, my kids will grow up thinking of them as really cool big brothers. I had two very special cousins that were like this in my life. They taught me so much and to this day are so very precious to my heart. I guess you could say that there are still like my "cool big sisters!" (You know who you are Missy and Spring!!) I am so glad that my children have a special love for their uncles and I hope that each one of them know that they are such important people in their niece's and nephews' lives. I also hope each of them know how proud I am of them. Thank you Jackson for thinking of Elijah and for having so much fun with Andrew!! Well that happened this week! Andrew goes through these "phases" where he will test me and Scott until he is sure that we mean what we say. This week has been one of those times!! First of all, he has stopped taking naps all together. (As if my sanity was not already hanging in the balance!!) Then he has done anything and everything he could to drive Avery crazy. So, finally I really got on him about leaving his sister alone.....he did NOT like this!! He came to me with his "angry face" on and holding his buzz lightyear told me "Mommy! Buzz is mad at you and is coming here to SPANK YOU!!" It was all I could do not to bust out laughing, but knowing I had to correct this attitude problem I told him that if he talked that way to me again his Daddy would spank him. (Which is the worst imaginable punishment to Andrew!!) This pretty much ended the trouble that day. But the next day we were back at it. I went out to get the mail and told the kids to stay inside. Andrew was, of course, upset because he wanted to come out and play. So, as I was coming back to the front door I heard it LOCK and him run off laughing!! I was panicing.....a million thoughts went through my head. (Mostly about Elijah, who was laying on a blanket in the living room!!) I started to bang on the door and yelling at Andrew to come unlock it. No such luck, the little turkey just stood there laughing!! I ran around the house and thankfully the backdoor was unlocked. (it usually is not) Let me just say that when I did get in and got a hold of that boy.....it didn't end well for Andrew that day!! Oh Boy! Well, kids sure make things interesting!!

Sweet Moments

Since Elijah was born I have had so many ups and downs in emotions. As you can imagine there have been days when life seemed more crazy than I knew how to handle. I can't deny that I've thought of running outside of the house screaming, but I figured the neighbors might think I was crazy and have me committed!! Although there have been some tough days I am so thankful for my family. With all of this talk about the economy and goodness knows you'll go into a depression if you watch the news for to long, it's nice to look around and see the wonderful gifts God has blessed us with. It's funny how God's gifts sometimes come in material things...like the food he provides us or clothes, house, etc. But sometimes it comes in those sweet moments in life. Like when Avery comes up just to give me a kiss, or when Andrew says "I love you, Mommy!" or just the way Elijah lights up when I talk to him. I love to watch Scott play with the kids. It is one of those things that makes me fall in love with my husband over and over again. So in these days when life is crazy and the future for well.....our nation seems uncertain, it is so comforting to know that God is there. He is there in my home when I need to run to Him for strength. (Instead of running outside!!) He is there when the bank account runs low and He says seek me first. He is there to say that He will carry us through whatever comes our way. Life is crazy but God is good!!

Scott and Elijah
(one of those Sweet Moments)

Little Miss. Avery

I love having a little girl! Now, don't get me wrong I absolutely love my boys. You know, both boys and girls add so much excitement to life. However, Avery is definitely not your average little girl. She is a fireball!! Sure, she is sweet (when she wants to be) but that girl is a busy body and can let out a scream that can bust your ear drum!! She can definitely hold her own sandwiched between two brothers! I can get so tickled watching her....most people do. Even though, at times she can be a tough cookie and has had more spankings in 20 months than Andrew in his 3 years of life, I wouldn't trade or change her for anything. I am so glad she is strong and am so thankful for her fun personality. I know that through the years she might present many challenges but I also know she will bring us so many laughs and "adventurous" moments. The Lord has truly blessed us with our baby girl and I can't wait to see the woman she will be. (I also can't wait to watch her have a little girl Just Like Her!!.....Or is that what my Mama wished for me?)

Isn't she beautiful?

Her pretty outfit her Mama Mia got her!!

My Baby Girl!!

This is Avery on a ride at a birthday party!
She is not letting that purse go!!

Miss Priss!!!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://candissfortenberry.blogspot.com/2009/02/little-miss-avery.html' title='Little Miss. It seems that we all get a boost of energy when Daddy stays home. The day seems so much fun. Today we really didn't do anything that exciting. We picked up what was a disaster of a house. Then balanced the checkbook.....definitely not the highlight of the day. But as always the kids added the excitement! Andrew showed of his moves on his skates....without the training brakes on! Later, I heard Avery yelling "Get out!" and when I found them Andrew was actually inside the washing machine!! I pulled him out and sent them OUTSIDE!! Where they played in the dirt. Which, of course, led to two children that looked like they were chimney sweepers! I decided to cook spagheti.....since everyone (and everything) was a mess anyway! I'm still not sure how much ended up in Avery's stomach.

Silly girl!

Oh Boy!!

Way to go Andrew!!

"What day is it again?"

Okay here's a run down of the last 24 hrs:

9:00 p.m. We put the kids down to bed!! (Of course, alot of times growing up brothers cause each other adversity!!) It warms my heart when I see how much Andrew loves his little brother. He really takes the time to "play" with and give lots of love to Elijah. Sure, there will come a day when they will do anything and everything they can just to get under the other one's skin, but for now it's so nice to take in these sweet moments. I know that through the years there will be lots of arguments and goodness knows I'll quickly tire of hearing "He started it!!" However, I hope and pray that as they grow they will remain close to each other. I hope that they each will be sure that they are dearly loved by their family. My brothers and sisters are such precious people in my life. There is not a day that goes by that they don't cross my mind. Each one holds a special place in my life and I am truly blessed to have them. It matters little whether they are "full blood" or even "biologically related" at all. What does matter is that they are mine. I am so proud of the men that my brothers are becoming and my sisters will always be my very best friends. I pray that my children will also say the same things some day.

Andrew and Elijah
hanging out in the bean bag!!

"To Infinity and Beyond!!"

Today I led children's church, which always adds excitement to my Sunday mornings! We have a relatively small group with kids from Andrew's age (3) to about age 8. So, it can make for a pretty interesting hour. The lesson was on King Solomon building the temple for people to worship the Lord. So I asked the children, "What are ways we can worship God?" Of course they said all the right "Sunday School" answers: "sing songs, pray, play music, umm be good?" "Another way we can worship is by telling God how thankful we are for what He has blessed us with. Can everyone name something they are thankful for?" I really felt like I had gotten the message to "hit home" even with the three year olds. Several of the kids said things like family, my dog, my cat, my friends. Then I got to my three year olds, the girls were so sweet. They both softly answered "my Mommy." "Awe, How sweet! What about you Andrew, what are you thankful for?" (I really expected him to say the same!) Andrew looked at me, very excited, and loudly yelled...."BUZZ LIGHTYEAR.....TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!!) I laughed looked at the other teacher and thought "That's the preacher's kid for ya!!"

"Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Thank you for Mommy and Daddy and Avery and Elijah and
BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!!"

Happy three months Elijah!!

Today Elijah is three months old!! I know that I should expect the time with him as an infant to fly by (I have been through it two other times) but I am so sad that he is growing so fast!! It really has been such a blur. Of course most of my life is now one large blur.....I get up, stumble to the coffee pot, try my best to have my "quiet" time, and do two or three marathon diaper changes....then I look up and it's lunch, and I have not even brushed my teeth!! Do you remember that song by Martina Mcbride "When God fearing women get the blues?" Well, I've been singing it alot this week!! (I think it makes my husband a little nervous!!) Although my days are crazy and life is a complete blur, I am so thankful for these moments to sit and take in all the wonderful parts of my days. I know that one day I will long for these days. Perhaps I won't miss supporting the CEO of Pampers but, I will miss hearing the sounds of little feet running down the halls and the sound of laughter as I get their "tickle spots." Thank you for allowing me to share the moments of our lives, it inspires me to take note of them more. Here are some pictures of Elijah on his 3 month birthday...

Looks like he has found his thumb....oh no!!

That's my peanut!!

Playing in the Rain

Every parent dreams of creating moments of magic for their children. We all hope that when the day comes that they are grown and began to have their own families, that they will look back and have so many fun and love filled memories. However, life is often hard and very busy. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the daily chores of life that we forget to look for and take advantage of those "magic moments." Isn't it so funny how we can spend so much time and especially money in attempts to give our children wonderful memories, yet it is the little things that they seem to treasure the most. I see this everytime I go to Disney World. I can't help but giggle everytime I see a parent arguing with their child "No, we are not going back to the hotel so you can swim. We have a pool at home! Now we spent alot of money to take you here and YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE FUN!!!" The kid sighs, "yes ma'm" as he lowers his head and drags his feet all the way to the Dumbo ride. (which of course he will stand in line for an hour to have a 5 min. ride!) So, today I threw caution to the wind, accepting the fact that it would lead to muddy children and dirty floors. It was even 15 min. from their usual naptime...I was a brave woman!! Watching Andrew stare out the window at the rain pouring down outside I exclaimed "You wanna go play in the rain?" They looked at me a little confused.....and then sprinted to the door!! It was so fun!! I hope that as they grow I will become more and more willing to get over my own agenda and step out of the box if only in the name of fun!!

I hope it was a "moment of magic" for them.

(Even though it was messy!)

"Winter" days in Florida

Although many areas of the U.S. is having freezing cold temps, down here in Orlando it is sunny and 80 degrees! I keep having to remind myself that it is actually January since I have been running the a.c. in my house all day....just to keep it at 78 degrees inside. (Meaning each kid had woke up at least once.)Scott had made his usual 2:30 am trip with Avery back to her bed and I sat nursing Elijah in our room hoping that this feed would last him until morning. (Not likely!!) When I started to hear the sound of something moving around in the house. At first I thought it was Andrew making his way to my room, but he never came. So I sat there trying to figure out who it was. "What is Scott doing?....Oh, He must be looking for a sippy cup for one of the kids." I sat in silence getting a little spooked. About five of the longest minutes of my life passed by, the sound continued, and there was no Scott. "He must have fallen asleep!" I thought to myself. I laid there gripped with fear my heart pounding and drawing very short breaths...I knew there was somebody in our house! "Why did Scott have to be on the other end of the house?.....Why did we not keep a baseball bat in our room?...Why am I such a wimp?" Finally I got up the nerve, I eased out of bed crept to the edge of the door, peeked around the corner....I saw no one. I drew a deep breath said a quick prayer and tip toed out of the bedroom, and the sound stopped then I stopped! I stood there frozen trying to decide if I should scream or just run into the living room and attack whatever monster had found it's way into my home!! But before I made my decision I heard it again....it was coming from the wall. "What is that?" I followed the sound to the corner of the room where I spotted a small hole at the bottom of the wall and in that hole.....a little tiny MOUSE!! In one since I was completely relieved and in another totally freaked out!! "I know I'll get Scott, he'll take care of you. You little rodent!!" So I snuck into Avery's room, there he was sacked out with Avery practically sleeping on his head. "Come here!!" I whispered. I showed him the hole, I told him about the mouse. He looked at me with a rather apathetic look and said "Hmm, well I don't know what to do about that....good night." "What?" I looked at my husband in confusion. "Well, I guess there's nothing I can do." I thought to myself. So in the words of my son's bedtime book:

"Good night moon,
Good night house,
and Good night Mouse!!"

Crazy Days and Crazy Nights!

Welcome to my blog! I'm not sure if it will ever be read but if it is I hope it brings a few laughs!! I wanted to start this blog to let our family and friends in on the daily happenings in our, oh so busy life! It seems to be a good day to start since I got up at 4:30 this morning! That's the life of a mom! I can remember the days when nightime was a quiet and restful period of the day, those days have long passed! At three o'clock this morning I was awoken, once again, by my little night raider! (Avery- my 20 month old!) As I laid there hearing her footed pajamas shuffle down the hallway I thought to myself "Will we ever sleep again?" Thankfully, Scott drug himself out of the bed (for I think the second time that night) to escort the little princess BACK TO HER BED!! Then, when Elijah decided to make a poopy at 4:30 in the morning and NOT go back to sleep- I figured NOPE we will never sleep again! So once again in my morning prayer time I thanked the Good Lord for coffee!! So bring it on crazy days and sleepless nights, for the Lord has blessed me with Folgers and French Vanilla creamer!!
